The president of the Junta de Andalucía, José Antonio Griñán of the PSOE party, announced yesterday in Malaga that the Andalucian parliament will be dissolved at the end of January and elections will take place on March 25th 2012 to elect the new regional government.
Griñán described his past four years in government as “intense and very difficult” due to the economic crisis and rising unemployment, but also said it was “exciting.” and stressed that his administration had not cut spending on welfare or public health, as has happened in other regions. He also claimed that Andalucia has less debt and lower deficits than the average autonomous region.
Campaigning for the election will officially begin in March.
