During 2011 the local waste vegetable oil recycler La Estrella collected a total of 45,932 liters of used cooking oil, according to the council. This oil has been collected from local establishments such as bars, restaurants and hotels, and bins installed for this purpose in different parts of the town. La Estrella collects used vegetable oil free of charge in order to avoid pollution. This residue is used to make a environmentally friendly fuel such as biodiesel.
