On Friday the 17th of August there was the first of two screenings of some of Danish resident Ib Stenderup’s Super 8 films of Maro and its surroundings, dating back to the 1960s. Almost all the residents of Maro attended the event and many more from Nerja, including visitors here on holiday.

People who attended the screening were treated to some images of Maro that today are unusual, such as the large number of children in the village, (at the time there were three schools in the town, compared to the one that exists today), women washing clothes in “El quebraero”, and some bars that now no longer exist.

There will be a further showing on Friday 24th of August at 10pm, showing the films from the 1970s, in the main square in Maro.
