Torrecilla Beach Nerja

Torrecilla Beach Nerja

Nerja town council have voted to request that the Ministerio de Medio Ambiente, Medio Rural y Medio Marino (the government ministry responsible for the coastline of Nerja) to build a breakwater at the eastern end of Torrecilla beach, in order to prevent the beach from being swept away in stormy weather.

The council has to regularly re-build the beach when powerful waves move the sand from one end of the beach to the other, which in extreme circumstances can leave one end of the beach devoid of sand.

Both the governing PP and opposition PSOE parties voted in favour of this motion, with the IU party abstaining.
