Visitors and locals alike are being warned to be on their guard when using cashpoint machines in the town, after reports have been circulating that thieves have been attaching devices to some cashpoints to retain the cash as it is being dispensed. The customer thinks that the machine has malfunctioned and the criminal then recovers the cash after the customer has left.
As usual when using a cashpoint, customers are advised to look closely at the card insertion point and cash dispensing slot before using it. If it looks like it may have been tampered with, do not use it.
