More than 70% of holidaymakers who stay in Nerja, claim that they plan to return again within 3 years. This is one of the findings of a tourism study carried out by the Spanish consultancy SOPDE last year.

According to the study, the majority of foreign tourists who stayed in Nerja were from the UK and had an average age of 48 years, mainly staying in three (18%) or four (25%) star hotels. The study also shows that the average hotel occupancy rate in Nerja is more than 50%.

Most visitors stayed for a minimum of 10 days and most were first time visitors to Nerja, although almost 25% said that they had visited the town between 3 and 5 times before. Over 181,000 visitors stayed in hotels last year for a total of 775,000 nights.

According to this study the majority of the visitors booked their own travel and accommodation using the Internet.
