Blue flags burriana beach nerja Nerja Council have raised this year’s Blue Flags at Burriana and Torrecilla beaches to go with the existing “Q” for Quality flags that are already flying there and at El Chucho beach.

The ceremony was attended by the Mayor José Alberto Armijo, the chief of the local police, Antonio Navas, the environment manager, Alberto Portillo, and a group of lifeguards.

The beaches councillor stated that 50 lifeguards have been employed this summer along with a safety boat and jet ski to provide rescue services on the various beaches.

The beaches have also been bouyed at a distance of 200m from the shore over a length of 8 km to provide a safe swimming area. There are also six boat lanes on the different beaches, including one at Maro. There will also be two cleaning boats operating during the summer months, collecting rubbish from the surface of the water from 11am to 5pm every day.

To keep the beaches clean and tidy, the council have employed 20 people along with 6 gardeners.

In July and August there will be beach libraries at Burriana and Torrecilla.
