Thursday the 6th of December 2012 is a public holiday in Nerja and in Spain for Día de la Constitución (Constitution Day) which commemorates the referendum held in Spain in 1978 to approve the current Spanish Constitution which brought an end to forty years of dictatorship. To mark this event there will be a talk on the Constitution by Senator Patricia Navarro at the Nerja Cultural Centre on Tuesday for Nerja school children.

On Dia de La Constitución itself there will be official ceremonies at the Ayuntamiento along with readings from the Constitution by secondary students. At midday, there will be a concert by the Municipal Band outside the Ayuntamiento building by the Balcon de Europa, followed by a flag raising ceremony by four youngsters from the town.

Saturday 8th of December 2012 will be another public holiday for La Inmaculada Concepción. Banks and other public services will be closed on these two days, but bars and restaurants and small shops will be open as usual.
