Paraglider Similar To That Involved in Saturdays Accident

A 47 year old Nerja man, José Manuel R.A. died yesterday (Saturday) afternoon while paragliding in Calaceite in Torrox-Costa. The accident happened at the highest part of the mountain, in an area licensed for paragliding. Within seconds of taking-off, the glider crashed into the rocky ground below from a height of sixty feet. The reason for the accident are unknown, however at the time there were strong winds, with sudden shifting gusts, which may explain the disastrous loss of control.

The emergency services were called to the scene of the crash by the victim’s friend, but the man was already dead when they arrived at this inaccessible area.

Just after 9pm, the body of the paraglider was taken away under the authority of the Police Court of Torrox. Relatives and friends of José Manuel yesterday displayed their grief at this tragedy, on the Balcon de Europa.
