The Environment Ministry in Madrid has given the go ahead for the long-awaited new marina to be built on the Torrox side of the Nerja/Torrox boundary near to Calaceite.
It is claimed that studies carried out on behalf of the ministry and the Andalucian Public Ports Agency, show that this location will do the least harm to the environment and the neighbouring beaches.
The mayor of Torrox, Francisco Muñoz (PSOE) has welcomed the announcement, saying it is “great news for the area”. He has also urged the Government to expedite the process of getting the project underway, calling it “an essential plan to revitalize the economy of the town and its surroundings”.
Meanwhile the councillor for infrastructure in Nerja, Antonio García (PP), has denied that the Environment Ministry has in fact settled on the Torrox location for the marina. It is unlikely that anything will be resolved before the new Spanish government takes power next month.
