Nerja TownhallNerja’s full council session yesterday ended in a walkout, when members of the opposition parties (the PSOE and IU) voted with their feet and walked out of the council chamber.

According to the PSOE spokesman Luis Peña, the conflict started during the presentation of the financial adjustment plan which was met with laughter by the opposition parties. The councillors were then shown a chart by García Jimena who said that his teacher used to say that “the pigheaded are taught with cartoons”.

The opposition parties took offence to this comment and their spokesman demanded an apology. Instead he was expelled from the chamber and the rest of his party followed, joined afterwards by the IU members.

The recriminations continued afterwards, with both sides blaming the other for the premature end to the council session.
