Nerja council unanimously gave its backing yesterday to a project to convert a 300 year old farmhouse into the area’s first “Rural Hotel”. When the rebuilding work is complete, the hotel will have ten double bedrooms, plus two function rooms and a swimming pool.

The farmhouse, known locally as the “Cortijo of Pepe The American”, stands in grounds of 112,000 square metres and is located in the Peñón de los Castillejos area near to the source of the río de la Miel in the Sierra Almijara natural park. The extensive grounds of the hotel will have almond and olive trees, as well as beehives.

The developers of the project, a Dutch owned company, plan to open the new hotel before the end of this year and will be investing some €500,000 into the new development.
