A man has been given a prison sentence for extending his tool shed on land in Frigiliana which was designated as rural. The man carried out building work to extend the shed by 27 square metres, despite the fact that new buildings were prohibited and could not be legalised.
In 2008 the man was ordered to stop the building work by the council planning department, however he continued regardless, completing the extension by the end of the year.
In his defence the accused claimed that he thought he was allowed to continue with the building work after having paid a fine, but this was dismissed by the court, who sentenced him to seven months in prison.
