Unions have agreed with the government as to what minimum levels of service will be provided during the General Strike that is set to go ahead on Thursday 29th March 2012. During the last general strike (on September 29th 2010) private businesses were open pretty much as usual in Nerja, with many shops, bars and restaurants open for business. Bus services to Málaga and the airport were affected and it is likely that there will only be a skeleton bus service during the strike on Thursday.

Its not clear at present what flights might be affected from Málaga Airport. If you have booked to fly on that day it is worth checking with your airline or holiday company before you travel, likewise if you have booked a taxi.

This page will be updated as more news is announced on the likely affect of the general strike.

Agreed Service Levels

The government has agreed the following minimum levels of service with the unions:

Flights
There will be 10% of flights operating within Spain, 20% of flights within the EU and 40% of the international flights outside of the EU.

Trains
Long distance and AVE over 500KM. 20% of the services will be in operation. Local trains will operate at around 30% of normal.

Buses
25% of the normal bus services will be in operation.

Ferries
Between 50% and 100% of the ferry services will be operating as normal. The coastguard will operate at near normal levels although the control room staff will be reduced.

British Airways has this advice:

If your flight is still operating on 29 March but you wish to change your travel plans to avoid the strike day, you may rebook to an alternative date, subject to availability:
