After the week of above average temperatures in Nerja, where the thermometers reached 20ºC at times, cold Arctic wind has arrived, dropping temperatures by around 4ºC, with the highest temperature reached today being 16.8ºC at lunchtime.
Although there are still a handful of people sunbathing at Torrecilla beach, the cold wind has given the locals the excuse they needed to dress up in full winter gear, with boots, jeans, scarves and winter coats the order of the day.
The Arctic wind is blowing down across Britain and western France before reaching Spain. An area of low pressure in the central mediterranean is causing stormy weather there, including snow in the Alps.
The cold weather in Nerja is set to continue for the rest of the week, with daytime temperatures forecast as low as 14ºC on Friday. Night time temperatures could fall as far as 7ºC. The cold weather arrives just in time for the ski season, with the Sierra Nevada ski resort opening in two days time.
