Friday the 6th of December 2013 is a public holiday in Nerja and in Spain for Día de la Constitución (Constitution Day) which commemorates the referendum held in Spain in 1978 to approve the current Spanish Constitution which brought an end to forty years of dictatorship.

On Dia de La Constitución itself there will be official ceremonies in the council chamber at the Ayuntamiento, however due to the roadworks in front of the building, the traditional flag raising ceremony and concert will not take place this year (2012 event pictured). In Frigliana at midday there will be a ceremony to mark the occasion in La Plaza de la Constitución with music provided by the municipal band, to which everyone is invited to attend.

Monday the 9th of December 2013 will be another public holiday for La Inmaculada Concepción (moved from Sunday). Banks and other public services will be closed on these two days, but bars and restaurants and small shops will be open as usual.
