A British expat from Nerja has been arrested after running over a Nerja Town Councillor. The accident happened on the old road between Maro and Nerja on Tuesday at around 3pm. The councillor was heading towards Maro on her moped and met the British man coming the other way on the wrong side of the road in his car.
The car driver fled the scene of the accident, but was followed by two off-duty National Police officers, who were on holiday here. The man was followed to his home in Calle Ubeda, where the local police were called. The man, aged 60, was given a breathalyser test which proved positive.
The councillor was transferred to Vélez-Málaga Hospital where she was treated for numerous bruises and scratches, and was released after several hours.
