Nerja local police were called out on Wednesday afternoon after an 87 year old man suffered an accident in his flat on avenida Mediterráneo, near to Torrecilla beach. A resident of another flat called the police after hearing calls for help from inside the flat in the Poseidon II building.
The local police arrived at the flat with a spare set of keys, but were unable to open the door, apparently because the keys were in the lock on the inside of the door. At the suggestion of the neighbours the police finally gained access via the terrace from the flat next door and found the man lying on the floor with injuries to his face and head and a possible broken hip.
The ambulance service gave the man first aid, before taking him to the regional hospital in Velez-Malaga.
