The fireworks, the car horns and the klaxons went on into the small hours last night in Nerja after Spain beat Italy 4-0 in the final of the Euro 2012 competition.
The tapas bars were full of holidaymakers in Spain shirts enjoying the atmosphere as Spain made history by becoming the first team to win three successive major international tournaments (Euro 2008, World Cup 2010 and now Euro 2012).
The result also vindicates Maya the sea otter at the Sealife Centre in Benalmadena who forecast the win, by picking the float with the Spanish flag on it, as we reported yesterday.
Many locals had parties at home to watch the match, filling the streets afterwards with Spain flags, klaxons and fireworks until well after midnight.
