For the first time since its re-discovery in modern times, the Nerja Caves are to offer a series of exclusive visits outside of the normal opening hours for small groups. As an added bonus the groups will be accompanied by none other than “Tito” from the famous TV series Verano Azul which was set in Nerja.
Groups of up to 50 people will be able to enjoy the beauty and history of the caves for a limited time from Thursday the 16th of May (2013) until the end of June. The manager of the Caves Ángel Ruiz explains that this is a “unique opportunity for a limited time” that will transport visitors “thousands of years back in time to an age when the inhabitants lit up the caves and marvelled at its beauty”. During the visit, which will be full of “surprises and discoveries” the caves will be illuminated to show off the caves and its incredible stone formations, such as the stone waterfall in the Sala del Ballet and the family of stalagmites in the Sala de los Fantasmas (Ghost Room).
On the way back through the caves, Miguel Joven (“Tito”) will tell visitors anecdotes from the filming of an episode of Verano Azul which took place inside the caves.
There will be two sessions per day from the 16th of May, at 2pm and 6.30pm. Visitors will also be able to dine in the Caves restaurant. To book go to the official caves website here.
The caves will also be hosting visits from groups of travel agents on the 13th and 14th of May, so that they can experience first hand the Nerja Caves.
