Nerja council has announced that it has secured funding to install awnings in the streets in the town centre, to give some shade to pedestrians during the heat of the summer.
According to Nerja’s councillor for commerce, Nieves Atencia, the council requested the grant from the Ministry of Tourism and Commerce to allow the work to go ahead.
If everything goes to plan the new awnings will be installed starting in June, with the work due to finish no later than August, so that locals and visitors can enjoy the streets of the town centre in the shade.
The grant is for a total of €69,700 with the council paying for 20% of the work.
