The Nerja Donkey Sanctuary, which for many years has been located on the main road from Nerja to Torrox, is being forced to search for a new home. The move comes as a result of the existing position being too close to the local school on Calle Antonio Ferrandiz, apparently according to health and safety regulations.
No timescale has been announced for the move, or the likely new location, although somewhere on the road out of town towards Frigiliana has been suggested.
The Nerja Donkey Sanctuary is staffed by volunteers, dedicated to rescuing, caring for and protecting donkeys, mules, horses and various other animals including a few dogs, cats, pigs and chickens. The sanctuary relies entirely on donations and receives no grants from the government. The Donkey Sanctuary is also a popular destination for holidaymakers who enjoy visiting the animals and feeding them carrots by hand.
