A new workshop is to be set up in Nerja to give training to youngsters under the age of 25 in diverse skills such as gardening, set design, customer services and care for the elderly. The workshop “Nerja Sierra Mar” has been made possible by a grant of 50% from the Junta de la Andalucia towards the €858,000 cost.
The courses will accommodate 40 people and will run for 18 months with a mixture of practical and theoretical work. Those taking part will also receive financial help during the course.
The workshop has been in the planning stages since January 2011, with approval given by the Junta in December of that year. The Mayor of Nerja has thanked the Junta de Andalucia for its support saying “in spite of being late, the arrival of the money is what is important”. The Mayor has also called on the Junta to provide the awaited funding for another planned workshop, this time for people over 25 years of age, “so that it can go ahead as soon as possible.”
Those interested in enrolling in the workshop need to go to the Andalucía Orienta offices in edificio Balcon de Europa.
