If you are in Nerja this Saturday September 17th and think you can play chess well, why not take part in ‘el Open Nerja de Ajedrez’, the Nerja Open Chess Tournament. Players come from all over the Malaga province for this exciting day of chess.
The competition takes place at the IES El Chaparil, a secondary school on calle Antonio Ferrandis, and if you are interested in participating the format is the Swiss System over 7 rounds. Each player gets 15 minutes per game and the rules follow those of FIDE. The tournament will be overseen by two qualified referees.
Registration is at the school on the day of the competition from 8.45 to 9.30 am. The fee is €10 for adults and €5 for children under 16.
The Prizes: the first 3 in the adult category will be awarded 200, 150 and 100 euros respectively. The next six on the leaderboard will receive €50 each. A first prize of 50 euros and a trophy will be awarded to the best under 16 player and €50 and a medal for the second. Finally, there is a local player category, where the winner will be rewarded with €60 and a trophy while the second, third and fourth place will receive €30 euros and a medal. At local level one under 16 will receive €30 and a trophy.
