On Saturday the 28th of September 2013 there will be a procession for the two patron saints of Nerja; San Miguel Arcángel and Nuestra Señora de las Angustias. The Nerja Feria is officially in honour of the patron saints and this procession is traditionally carried out on the last Saturday (or in previous years Sunday) of September in the run up to the Feria.
There will be a mass at 7pm at the El Salvador church on the Balcon de Europa, after which the statue of San Miguel Arcángel will be carried to the chapel of Nuestra Señora de las Angustias before returning to the Balcon with the Señora de las Angustias.
The Señora will remain in El Salvador church until the 10th of October, in the middle of the Feria, when the statue will be returned to the chapel in Plaza Angustias.
The Nerja Feria takes place in the large car park between Calle Los Huertos and Calle Carabeo and consists of a large fairground surrounded by casitas (marquees) where live perfomances of music and dancing take place. There are many stalls selling food and drinks and each night the party and the noise goes on until the small hours. The feria is the highlight of the start of autumn.
