Dia Del Pedal Finish on the Balcon de EuropaToday the 25th Dia del Pedal is due to take place, starting and finishing at Plaza de España behind the Balcon de Europa and a record number of entrants are expected. Last year’s Dia del Pedal also took place under overcast skies and today’s forecast is for some rain in the early morning, with temperatures not going above 14ºC.

The number of entrants to this event have grown over the years, with just a few hundred taking part in the first event back in 1988 and more than 2,000 in last years. If you would like to take part you can register this morning at Plaza de España. All entrants will get a a t-shirt and there will be prizes that include bicycles and skateboards.

Also taking place today in Plaza de Andalucía are various acts starting at midday to mark Día de Andalucía (Andalucia Day). This commemorates the 1980 referendum in which the Andalucian electorate voted in favour of the Statute of Autonomy of Andalusia, which made Andalucia an autonomous region of Spain.

The official acts will start with a performance by the Municipal Band, followed by readings by students from the local schools, which will include various articles of the Statute of Autonomy. Afterwards the Andalucian flag will be raised on the flagpole followed by a performance by the Arena y Sal choir.
