Nerja council have announced that the winning bidder for the contract to construct the new multi-storey car park in Burriana is a consortium composed of two companies Sardalla Española and Site. The two companies have priced the project at just under €2.5 million compared to the €2.7million allowed for in the tender.

In total the council received 28 bids from potential contractors. The tender process for the project has been running since April and work will get underway when the contract is signed. The work is expected to take 18 months, which would mean the new car park would open in the second half of 2014 if all goes according to plan.

Finance for the project will come from the state fund for the modernisation of tourism infrastructures (FOMIT). The site for the new structure is currently an empty parcel of land, which is used for parking in the summer months, just off one of the access roads to Burriana and a few minutes walk to the beach. Parking in Burriana is very limited in the summer months, with more visitors than parking places and this new car park will be a very welcome addition to the area.

The new car park will be the fourth public car park to be built in Nerja, the others being the underground car parks at the Balcon de Europa, with 733 spaces, Verano Azul park with 273 spaces and the public pool car park, with 70 spaces. There is also the privately owned car park at Los Huertos.
