The programme of events for the 2011 Nerja Caves Festival being held from the 12th to the 16th of July has been announced. Performers will include the dancer Rocío Molina, Israeli singer Noa, the Society of Aida Gomez and the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra, accompanied by Mariola Cantarero.

The festival starts on the 12th with Rocío Molina (from Malaga) performing “Danzaora” a show of “flamenco puro” accompanied by the singer José Ángel Carmona and José Manuel Ramos “The Oruc” and Miguel Angel Ramos “El Rubio”.

On the following day, Noa, with guitarist Gil Dor, percussionist Zohar Fresco and the Solis String Quartet will perform a repertoire of Neapolitan songs in the concert “Noapoles”.

On the 14th and 15th of July the Society of Aida Gomez will put on “Carmen”, an “original choreography with flamenco touches”.

The programme finishes on July the 16th with soprano Mariola Cantarero (from Granada) and Barcelona tenor José Bros accompanying the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra, with the first half devoted to a repertoire of opera classics followed by popular zarzuela arias and duets.

Last week the director of the Nerja Caves, Angel Ramirez (leader of the PSOE political party in the last elections), announced that he is resigning from his position as party leader and will not be taking up his council seat following the PSOE’s defeat at the hands of the PP.
