Papagayo’s restaurant has finally been demolished on Calahonda beach, next to the Balcon de Europa. The derelict site had been left to deteriorate for several years after the restaurant was forced to close.
The council decided to complete the demolition work over several days in June, with tourists on the beach, rather than scheduling the work for the much quieter winter months.
The end result is a big improvement over the crumbling old building, but as yet there are no firm plans for what will be put in its place and no decision is expected within the next few years or indeed decades.
