For two days last month employees from Nerja’a Parador hotel (on the cliffs above Burriana beach) took part in a national strike against proposed job cuts and closures in the state owned hotel chain. These strikes and demonstrations have borne fruit, as the management have now watered down their proposals, reducing the number of hotels that were due to be closed and the number of staff members that were due to lose their jobs, by around half.

It has now been proposed that only two employees will lose their jobs in the Nerja Parador (instead of the three first proposed) out of the 66 employed there, but no other changes are planned and the hotel will remain open as normal. From today a number of other Paradors will close twice a year in the off season, including two in Andalucia; Ayamonte (Huelva) and Cazorla (Jaén), both of which will close today until the 14th of March.
