After the storms that hit Nerja on Sunday night, causing damage to the beaches and localised flooding, the council have started the clean up operation, after carrying out emergency works yesterday.
Over the weekend over 4 inches of rain fell in just over 24 hours. The main damage caused was in Punta Lara where the access road was blocked due to a landslide, as were the access roads to San Juan Capistrano, Fuente del Baden and la Barriada de los Poetas. The N340 Nerja-Torrox coast road was cut off for several hours where the Rio Seco goes under the road. The road along El Playazo beach was also washed away near to Pepe Mesa restaurant.
The access road to the Nerja Caves was cut off by earth and stones brought down by the rain – access was restored at around 11am by council workmen.
