The Malaga Feria 2013 runs for a full week, starting on Friday night (the 16th/17th of August) with the opening ceremonies and midnight fireworks at Playa Malagueta followed by a concert at the Paseo del Parque. At 10am on Saturday there is a gathering of horse and carriages in the Paseo del Parque and the feria ground itself is officially opened at 9.30pm.

Events carry on throughout the week centred on Paseo del Parque and Calle Marques de Larios in the daytime, bullfighting at the bull ring in the afternoons, with the fairground opening at around 9pm in the evenings (shuttle buses run from the town centre to the fairground).

The feria marks the re-conquest of the city by the Catholic monarchs Isabella and Ferdinand on the 18th August 1487 and was first celebrated in 1491. Since then the feria has grown into an enormous party, with shops and businesses closed for the duration and the streets in the centre instead filled with flamenco dresses, horses, music and dancing.

To visit the Malaga feria from Nerja, either drive and park in the city centre, or take a bus from the Nerja bus station on Avenida Pescia.
