At the end of August Canal Sur TV’s show ‘Diez Razones’ concentrated on Nerja, giving ten great reasons to visit the town. You can watch this episode online on the Canal Sur website or on YouTube.
These included Ayo’s giant paella on Burriana Beach, the Nerja Caves, the Nerja Donkey Sanctuary and the Balcon de Europa.
Also on the list was the little known fact that the best selling board game Trivial Pursuits was created in Nerja.
The deceptively large ‘Casa Vieja’ on Calle de las Animas was another entry, although I don’t think this place is open to the public.
The cliffs of Maro segment will make you want to jump into a kayak, whilst the last of the ‘cenacheros’ make the top ten, these being the fishermen who still operate from Calahonda beach and are named after the esparto grass baskets that they used to sell their catch from.
The final two reasons to visit Nerja according to ‘Diez Razones’ are the connection with the 80’s soap opera ‘Verano Azul’ and the local meat dish ‘Choto’, made from young goats.
The programme is in Spanish of course but even if you have trouble understanding the commentary there are some great views of Nerja to enjoy.
