Disabled Parking
Nerja Council has once again asked motorists to respect disabled parking bays and to not to use them unless genuinely entitled to. Earllier this year local police carried out a campaign and found that some motorists were using photocopied and fake disabled parking permits and some were even using permits that belonged to people who had in fact died.
Councillor Innocence Quintero has said that the “the fraudulent use of these cards causes a great inconvenience to disabled people who can not park in the areas reserved for them when they are occupied by vehicles of people without disabilities.”
Theft At Municipal Music School
Thieves broke into the Municipal School of Music, in San Miguel school, early on Monday morning. The thieves forced a window and stole three saxophones, an accordion, a violin, a computer and projector.
The thieves also unsuccessfully tried to break into the Nerja Cultural Centre, located near to San Miguel school, but the alarm was activated.
Fake Gasmen About
The fake gas men are out and about again in Nerja, with complaints that gas installers are visiting peoples homes saying that they need to carry out an inspection. The elderly and foreign nationals are predominantly targeted by the fraudsters. One of the victims has reported that the installers came to their house “abruptly and persuasively” saying it was mandatory to have an inspection otherwise the gas would be cut off. The victim was charged over €260 for this unnecessary inspection and has reported the fraud to the Guardia Civil. Whilst gas installations do need to be inspected periodically, it is up to the home owner to arrange the inspection with their chosen supplier and un-invited “inspectors” should be refused entry.
