A teenager had to be rescued by Civil Protection volunteers yesterday (Tuesday) after being injured whilst walking along the Rio Chillar.

The incident happened at around 4pm and as a result of the injury the youth was unable to return down the river unaided. His rescuers used a four wheel drive vehicle to transport the 17 year old to the medical centre in Nerja for treatment.

The teenager was part of an organised school trip from Malaga.

Last June a Dutch tourist, 48 year old Mary Anne Goosens, went missing for 18 days when out walking in the Rio Chillar. After a large search and extensive publicity she was eventually found safe and well by a party of other walkers.

The Rio Chillar is very popular in summer, with waterfalls and rock pools, but with difficult terrain in places.
