If you want to buy a property or a car in Nerja or open a bank account, you will need an NIE (Número de Identificación de Extranjeros – Foreigners Identification Number) issued by the National Police. The nearest National Police station to Nerja is the one in Torre del Mar on Avda. Andalucia 3 (see map below). To apply for a NIE number first visit the Foreigners Department at the Nerja Ayuntamiento building (pictured above, which is on the road that links the Balcon de Europa to Plaza España) – they will give you the forms you need and answer any questions that you have. You will then need to go to the National Police station in Torre del Mar with the following:-

  • Application form EX15 filled in. (Original and 1 photocopy).
  • Passport. (Original and 1 photocopy).
  • Bank payment form. 16 €.
