Almost 1000 people took part in Sunday’s 57th Carrera Urbana Feria de Nerja street running race, which starts and finishes on the Balcon de Europa.
The running started at 10am and went on throughout the morning with different age groups taking part in the various events. The races were in different categories, with children as young as 5 running over 500 metres, right through to the main event at 10am which covered 8 kilometres around the streets of Nerja. This was won by Javier Díaz Carretero from San Pedro Alcantara in the men’s category and Esther Hidalgo in the women’s.
At midday the “Caminata Popular” was held over a 1 km route for all age groups at walking pace.
The 29th Trofeo de Marcha was won by Luis Alberto Amezcua from Guadix in the men’s category and Ainhoa Pinedo from the Maratón de Madrid in the women’s.
Visitors watched the racing from the comfort of the shady cafes around the Balcon de Europa.
