A 59 year old man was rescued by Protección Civil volunteers yesterday afternoon whilst walking in the Rio Chillar region. The man, a Madrid resident who is spending a few days holiday in Nerja, was walking in an area known as the Cuesta de los Galgos with his wife, when he slipped and fell, losing consciousness as a result.

His wife used her mobile phone to call the 112 Emergency Services who despatched the volunteers and members of the Guardia Civil to the scene, where they found the man, who had by then regained consciousness. They also had to locate his wife, who had gone to find a mobile phone signal.

The victim was taken to the Nerja health centre by the Protección Civil volunteers and was then taken by his wife in their own car to the regional hospital in Velez-Malaga for further tests.

Back in July of this year a 63 British man, Gordon Simm, went missing whilst hiking in the Rio Chillar area. Despite extensive searches being conducted on the ground and from the air, no trace has been found. Read more.
