The sixth annual Ruta de la Tapa Nerja (Tapas Trail) starts on Sunday the 15th of April 2018 and runs through until the 14th of May.

This year 21 bars are taking part and in each one you can get a glass of beer (a caña) and a special tapas for a set price of €1.80. You can pick up the Ruta de la Tapa passport in the AEN tourist office by the Balcon de Europa, which has details of all the establishments taking part, plus if you get your passport stamped in each place you visit (minimum of nine bars) you can enter a draw to win a prize of your own weight in beer (plus dinner for four at the winning restaurant).

Bars taking part this year are; La Joya, Starr Tapas, Stratos, Biznaga, Grease, La Marina, El Asador, Don Chisciotte, Oveja Negra, El Artesano, Marissal, Spain Tapas, Iberico, Salamandra, Mar Bella, Mo Gastrotapas, Peña Madridista, Hermes, Malibu and the Parador. Some bars have a supplement for a glass of wine instead of beer, and last year the Parador were charging full price for a glass of wine, plus €1.80 for the tapa, which made for an expensive visit.

Our top picks to visit are Mo Gastrotapas (pictured), Iberico (last year’s winners), La Joya, Mar Bella, Peña Madridista and La Salamandra. New bars taking part this year include Oveja Negra on Calle Jaen with an “Asian Street Wok” and Meson del Asador above the Plaza de España car park with what looks like a sausage and a bread roll.
