Nerja council have announced plans to construct a botanical garden on the cliffs at the side of the promenade near to Plaza Cangrejos (by Torrecilla beach).

The garden would be called “Acantilados del Mar de Alborán” (Alboran Sea Cliffs) and according to councillor for the enviroment Nieves Atencia would be “a new project on the Costa del Sol to help promote ecotourism by offering an environmental resource and cultural education”. The councillor went on to claim that the cliff location would provide additional protection to the plants, as it is an area difficult to access on foot.

The council have asked the government’s Coasts Department to approve the project.
