A 23 year old lifeguard on Burriana beach, had a lucky escape on Monday, when the watchtower he was using, collapsed underneath him. The tower fell forward onto the beach, dropping the lifeguard from a height of nearly four metres. The lifeguard survived the fall with nothing more than bruising.
The tower collapsed due to corrosion around its base and the council have responded by ordering inspections of the other nine towers on Nerja’s beaches, which will remain out of use until they have been declared safe again.
