The Maro Feria de las Maravillas (Fair of Wonders) will be held on the 7th, 8th and 9th of September 2012. The day before the opening, on the 6th, the fairground rides will be operating at half price for children.

Friday 7th September 2012

Events begin with a brass band and a diana floreada followed at one in the afternoon, in the Plaza de las Maravillas, with paella courtesy of Ayos and performances by Placido and the dance groups Cristian and Angela.

At six in the evening there will a race through the streets of Maro and at 7pm the wreath for the Virgen de las Maravillas will be presented, accompanied by the Peña Mareña choir.

At 9.30pm there will be a gala for the election of the Queen of the feria and her maids of honour, along with the junior king and queen. The day will finish with music and dancing by the group Alalba.

Saturday 8th September 2012

The day’s activities begin at 9am with the diana floreada. At noon a Mass will be held in honour of the Virgen de las Maravillas after which will be a perfomance by Charanga Los Tropicales in the square.

There will be music and dancing at 7.30pm with the groups Nueva Imagen and Alalba.

The procession of the Virgen de las Maravillas starts at 9pm, with the participation of the Nerja Municipal Band. During the procession there will be a fireworks display and on arrival at the temple, the patron will be received by Rumba Dos Mil and Coros y Danzas from Maro.

After the procession, the festival will continue with the star performance of the night, by the group Plaza Sur.

Sunday 9th September 2012

Sunday’s events begin at 11am with another diana floreada with the Nerja Bugle and Drum Band, San Miguel Arcangel. The feria continues at 1pm in the Plaza de Las Maravillas with a tripe tasting courtesy of the Nerja Caves Restaurant followed by music and dancing.

At 5pm there will be children’s games in the square.

A tribute to the elderly will be held at the Home and Community Center starting at 6.30p.m. starring Placido.

The music and dancing start at 8pm with Nueva Imagen followed by fireworks at midnight.
