This year’s International Day For The Elimination Of Violence Against Woman takes place on Monday the 25th of November 2013 and Nerja will be marking the event with various acts around the town.
The day will start with representatives from the various political groups reading an anti-violence manifesto in the town’s schools. The students will also be told by the Guardia Civil of the steps they should take if they encounter gender violence.
There will be an official ceremony in the council chambers at the Ayuntamiento building at 5.30pm followed by a tribute to the victims of gender violence on the Balcon de Europa starting at 6pm, during which the Compañía Municipal de Teatro Balcón de Europa will perform. In September 2008 a young Argentinian woman, Cecilia Coria, was murdered by her ex-boyfriend near to the spot where the tribute will take place.
Various women’s organisations will also take part and the Councillor for Equality, Gema García, has invited anyone who wants to show their support for this cause to attend.
