Just in time for the local elections on the 22nd of May, the Izquierda Unida party (United Left) have published their proposals for the development of El Playazo Beach to the west of Nerja. This largely undeveloped stretch of coastline has a few beach restaurants (well, more accurately dusty pot-holed track facing restaurants) and a couple of boat yards, along with a hotel at the very end of the beach. The IU’s proposals are to create “possibly the best beach in Europe” with numerous leisure facilities including a skateboarding park, open air cinema, parking, ponds and a pedestrianised promenade. The artists impression (below) looks very promising.
Whether the IU can deliver on these proposals is another question and whether it would be built before the long promised marina, golf course and other overdue public works, is anyone’s guess.
