Local councillor for ‘Tradiciones Populares’ Sandra Jimena, presented the 2012 Nerja Carnival poster on Thursday to promote this year’s event.

The three days of festivities will run from February 17th to 19th.  On the 17th it begins with the proclomation of the start of the carnival, followed by the children’s costume competition and the election of the Carnival Nymph and Fool.  On Saturday the Grand Parade takes place where hundreds of people dress up in all manner of imaginative and amusing costumes and Sunday sees the funeral of the sardine, a parade of wailing and crying which ends at Calahonda Beach with the blowing up of the unfortnate fish.
