Nerja council have finally come up with the solution to the problems that visiting motorists face when following their sat navs to the Balcon de Europa. No longer will hapless tourists drive down ever narrowing pedestrianised streets, past tables of diners enjoying the sight of yet another hire car going nowhere, before finding themselves trapped on the Balcon with nowhere to go other than back the way they came (assuming the sat nav hasn’t directed them to turn left into the mediterranean itself).
In future, rather than just relying on people noticing the No Entry sign at the end of Calle Carabeo, or that the street they are driving down is oddly car free, the council are going to install automatic bollards similar to the ones already in use in Plaza Cavana, to physically prevent the visiting motorists from making fools of themselves.
The total cost of the project is €50,000 and bollards will also be installed on Calle Animas (pictured) and Plaza de España. We shall report back as and when the first hire car is found suspended in mid air on one of the new bollards (“Make a u-turn if possible”).
