A packed Balcon de Europa welcomed the start of the New Year last night, with fireworks, live music, dancing, drinking and grape eating as the midnight chimes rang out.
The party started at 11pm, with a spectacular firework display just after midnight (more pictures below), and carried on until the small hours, with die hard party goers continuing on at Plaza Tutti Frutti and in the other bars that were open until morning.
Christmas in Nerja carries on into the New Year, with the Three Kings still to come on the 6th January (Los Reyes). This is the day that the Three Kings arrived in Bethlehem, it is also the most important day for the children as the Three Kings in effect replace Father Christmas for Spanish children (although Santa is becoming popular). There will be a parade through the streets on the 5th of January starting at 5pm from Verano Azul park and ending at the Balcon, with the Three Kings throwing sweets to the crowds.
The Royal Postman will be collecting letters for the Three Kings on the 3rd of January at the Balcon at 5pm and handing out gifts and sweets to the children.
