Rio ChillarWorkmen are currently cleaning up the mouth of the Rio Chillar at Nerja’s El Playazo beach, as part of a council plan to clear the river mouths before possible heavy winter rain.

The mouth of the Rio Seco, at the other end of El Playazo, will be the next river to be cleaned up, once the contract for the work has been awarded to the successful bidder.

The work in the Rio Chillar covers an area of 4,000 square metres and consists of removing rubbish, plants and other debris from the banks and river bed.

Nerja council claim that the work on the Rio Chillar is the responsibility of the council, while the Rio Seco is the responsibility of the regional government, the Junta de Andalucia. According to the council the Junta have no plans to undertake the clean up work themselves, so Nerja council are going to organise the work in their place.
