The San Juan Festival in Nerja takes place this Thursday night, June 23rd. All the beaches in town, from El Playazo to Burriana, will be crowded with locals and tourists, everyone enjoying the traditional celebrations to greet the start of the summer season.
Many people gather in groups of family and friends, and make their own entertainment. However, many of the bars along the beaches will be providing music, both live and recorded, so if you are on holiday and want to join in the fun you might be interested in what these bars are offering.
The Rincon del Sol beach bar at the far end of Burriana has live music and a DJ throughout the night, plus many surprises. This is a great place to see out San Juan, or to take a break from the beach, with a large seating and bar area and it is right on the beach.
Papagayo, which is located on Calahonda Beach, also has live music and a DJ and every year is a very popular place on the Noche de San Juan.
In addition to the bars that provide entertainment the city council also arrange events during the night. At 10pm the Nerja group Alalba will be playing on the stage on Burriana Beach. This will be followed by the lighting of the bonfire and a firework display at midnight, when it is traditional to take a dip in the sea.
