Seville´s April Feria starts today the 16th of April and runs until Sunday the 21st 2013. The feria was officially opened last night at midnight, when the 20,000 lights on the feria entrance were turned on.
After a turbulent start to spring, the weather forecast is for clear skies all week, with temperatures expected to reach 30°C by the end of the week and not dropping below 15°C.
This week long party started life as a cattle fair in the mid 19th century and has developed into a cross between a funfair and a 24 hour street party, with hundreds of casetas (marquees). Sixteen of the casetas are free to enter. There are free guided tours of the feria, leaving from the Tourist Information Caseta on calle Pepe Hillo, by the main entrance, leaving at 2pm. 3.30pm, 5pm and 6.30pm. The Tourist Information is open from 1pm to 10pm.
Seville is around 3 hours from Nerja by car, or you can take the train from Malaga. There are more than 10,000 parking places in the car park at Charco de la Pava (shown on the map below) and there are shuttle buses to the feria ground itself.
You can download a map and guide (in Spanish) of the Feria from here.
